NEW CONSTRUCTION CHART PROVIDES SAFETY INFORMATION WHERE IT’S NEEDED

The Master Builders Association of NSW, Pro-Visual Publishing, TAFE PLUS and representatives from the Construction Safety Alliance recently launched the Construction Industry Guide to Site Safety 2003/04 (NSW).

The guide, which is has been produced as an easily accessible large vibrant wall chart, aims to improve safety on construction sites by reinforcing safe work practices to workers, employers and visitors on site.

"Managing risk on construction sites is complex and can only be successful when a consultative approach is taken," said Alan Garner, MBA NSW Health & Safety Manager.

"This new guide makes the provision of appropriate information, training, supervision and inductions absolutely essential so that safe work methods become second nature. This initiative plays an integral part by providing accessible and current information at all worksites."

Pro-Visual Publishing produced the guide with information researched and supplied by the Master Builders Association of NSW. It addresses vital issues using plain English, with easy to follow steps and checklists covering topics such as compulsory legal responsibilities, duty to consult, OHS site safety plans, as well as basic practical guidance for noise management and working safely at heights.

TAFE PLUS is one of 14 organisations which provided vital sponsorship, enabling 5000 copies to be distributed free of charge to commercial construction sites and construction training facilities across NSW.

"Being involved with this project is a wonderful opportunity for TAFE PLUS," said Lorraine Watson, TAFE PLUS Business Development Manager.

"A lot of organisations aren’t aware that TAFE PLUS delivers highly specialised training for OHS licensing purposes. All our programs address WorkCover NSW requirements and satisfy mandatory training needs under OHS legislation. This project has allowed us to get directly in front of the people that we want to see attend our programs."

Copies of the chart can be obtained from Pro-Visual Publishing or from the Master Builders Association of NSW.
